Rationale - A rationale is an explanation of what you intend to produce, with justifications for how it meets the requirements of the commissions.
Activity 1 - Rationale
Introduction
I have chosen to use a promotional video for the platform of production. My target audience would be teens ranged from 14-19. The video would be a short clip with not to much to read because most people would lose interest in watching it. The purpose of the video is to send a message to teens who are getting bullied and provide them with advice and to tell them 'they are not in this alone'.
Primary Research
For my primary research I have done a survey about bullying and made questions such as why are you being bullied?, If you have seen someone being bullied what do you do? etc. The people who have answered my survey was 16+. I believe many people were not comfortable saying they were being bullied so hopefully my video will help to speak out to someone about it.
Secondary Research
I have used other websites and was able to find out that more things through another website about bullying. Through this website https://www.pacer.org/bullying/resources/stats.asp I found out that a higher percentage of male than of female students report being physically bullied (6% vs. 4%), whereas a higher percentage of female than of male students reported being the subjects of rumors (18% vs. 9%) and being excluded from activities on purpose (7% vs. 4%). It also shows many across the globe are getting bullied because of their race, looks, rumours and cyberbullying. Among students ages 12 – 18 who reported being bullied at school, 15% were bullied online or by text. When students were asked about the specific types of cyberbullying they had experienced, mean and hurtful comments (25%) and rumors spread online (22%) were the most commonly-cited. 23% of African-American students, 23% of Caucasian students, 16% of Hispanic students, and 7% of Asian students report being bullied at school.

The vast majority of the globe has usable data, and these have been shaded according to the risk of bullying from light grey (low) to black (high). Gaps in the data (white areas) are most notable in central and West Africa, South Asia, parts of Central and Eastern Europe and the CIS, and islands in the Pacific.
At a glance, the global map shows higher risk in the western hemisphere, and lowest risk in the eastern hemisphere.

There are many Bullying websites where the aim is to help the young children who are being bullied. One of these is Bullying UK which dabbles with young teens in the UK.

This company gives advice to the young people and you can also call them to have a chat. There is a donate button to help the company thrive and you can also buy a wristband to help support the cause.

This website also includes a call service. They also include ways parents should handle the matter and tips and points. I have also noticed the different name these websites use. The names are to hard to read and are easy to remember.
Ideas For The Video
- My first idea is a boy facial differences goes to secondary school for the first time gets bullied because of his face and the other pupils have a hard time of accepting the fact he has facial differences because the boy looks different from them. He gets called names such as 'ugly' and 'weird face' and more comments on his looks. However during lunch time a bystander goes towards him and try's to be friends with the boy to make him feel better. They hang out with each other during lunch and people see this and they wonder he is no different from us he is still human. At the end the boy gains more friends and the bullies apologise for their behaviour. This video is targeted towards the bystanders for them to stand up and help the ones being bullied.
- My second idea is that I would get well known people (celebrities) who have gone through some sort of bullying and get them to talk about how they overcame it. This is very effective as many young teens look up to high profile people and try to walk in their footsteps. The video would start with slow paced sounds in the background as this shows and tells the listener that they are about to talk about something serious. The celebrity would then talk about how he/she got bullied and they resolved the problem. The celebrity would talk about if you are getting bullied you are not alone in the matter. The video would then end with a white screen with a phone number and website of our company for people that need a chat online.
Pitch
My idea for the commission is to create a video about a boy entering secondary school who gets bullied for his looks. It is intended for people who are being bullied and for the bystanders to help that people. This will teach people that are being bullied, they are not in this alone. My target audience is intended for people who are 14-19 year olds.
